Gum disease can strike without notice. Some people have felt they followed a good regimen with oral care but later discover they missed something. Gingivitis affects millions in the United States and is a growing cause for concern. In fact, it is currently the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Following a healthy daily routine that includes brushing and flossing will ultimately cut your chances of developing gum disease, but it cannot always prevent it. There are many reasons someone gets gum disease. Your own genes passed down from generations can have an effect on your teeth and gums, as can stress, and hormone changes in women.
To avoid gingivitis, having a dental check-up at least twice a year is recommended for most people and more often if you have underlying conditions which may increase your risk of gum disease. Controlling gingivitis now could prevent the development of periodontitis, which is irreversible. Once gum disease progresses beyond gingivitis to periodontitis, you will only be able to control the problem; it cannot be cured or reversed. To help fight gum disease, brush at least twice a day, and floss daily, this could prolong your healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime. It is possible, however, to have some form of gum disease and not know it. That is why Dr. Monti Harpalani of Vivid Dental and his caring team would like to invite you for a consultation.
