Often, when our third molars emerge from the gum line, the jaw does not have enough room for them. When these wisdom teeth do not have room, they can become impacted between the jawbone and gum tissue. When this occurs, symptoms may include an infection, swelling, and pain surrounding the wisdom teeth. Patients in their late teenage years and early 20s often seek the team at Vivid Dental in Houston for a remedy. One of the first questions they usually have is, “Can a wisdom tooth extraction procedure be painless?” Our caring and compassionate dentist and team can ensure that we do all we can to make the procedure as comfortable and pain-free as possible. We can provide a local anesthetic as well as other sedatives that can ease anxiety and prevent pain.
We can extract wisdom teeth before or after they emerge from the gum line. We usually recommend removing them to prevent potential damage to the jaw and other teeth. After wisdom teeth emerge, they may cause other teeth to shift. This can lead to bite problems, mouth pain, and the formation of cysts.
Rest assured you are in gentle hands at Vivid Dental. We can provide sedatives that take the edge off during a procedure. Our options include nitrous oxide and IV sedation. If you choose nitrous oxide, we will gently place a mask over your nose. You will inhale “laughing gas,” which is a moderate sedative. After the procedure, you can drive home because the nitrous oxide will wear off quickly.
For IV sedation, we will administer medicine into your vein. This method takes effect quickly. You may be so relaxed that you fall asleep, but we can awaken you easily after the procedure. We recommend coordinating transportation from the appointment because it takes some time for you to become fully alert after receiving IV sedation.
Do you want to explore having your wisdom teeth removed? We will be happy to schedule a consultation appointment with our dentist. Together, you two can decide if tooth extraction is the best treatment option. Call 281-809-4902.
