Can Six Month Smiles braces be used for kids in Houston?
At Vivid Dental in Houston, Texas, we have a wide range of general and cosmetic dentistry solutions for patients of all ages. We offer treatment for children and adults in our family-friendly practice. When imperfections of the teeth near the front of the smile are affecting their overall look, it is important to speak with a dentist to learn about the options available for treatment. For some patients, we may suggest braces in the form of Six Month Smiles.
Six Month Smiles is a type of orthodontic treatment designed to reposition the teeth near the front of the mouth for cosmetic purposes. This particular treatment does not improve bite alignment or work well for patients with more severe cases of misalignment in the smile. Instead, it focuses on the “social six,” which are the teeth near the front of the mouth that are noticeable when patients smile, speak, and laugh. It can have a negative impact when there are spaces and misalignment of these front teeth. Using Six Month Smiles can transform the smile quickly and easily.
Six Month Smiles uses brackets and self-ligating wires that gently reposition the teeth in a fast, effective manner. Typical treatment time takes anywhere from just a few months to one year, with the average treatment being six months.
Six Month Smiles is an alternative type of braces for our patients. We are often asked if they are beneficial for kids. We have utilized Six Month Smiles for many of our teenagers with mild imperfections of the smile, but do not recommend them for children, as intervention this early is often not required, especially for strictly cosmetic issues. If there are issues such as overcrowding or bite alignment that are affecting a child’s oral health, we may make a recommendation and referral to an orthodontic specialist for further examination and consideration for traditional braces.
