Root canal therapy, also known as endodontic therapy, is a treatment that is required for a severely infected tooth. It is often recommended as an alternative to permanently removing one’s natural, permanent teeth. To perform this treatment, patients will need to be evaluated to decide if they are a good fit for this procedure. Dr. Monti Harpalani of Houston, Texas, is here to assist at Vivid Dental. He takes the time to educate you on the symptoms that may lead to the need for root canal therapy and what the procedure entails.
There are various warning signs indicating the need for root canal therapy:
If you notice any of these symptoms, you must seek professional help immediately. Dr. Monti Harpalani can assess your situation and determine whether you need root canal therapy. If necessary, he will discuss potential treatment options with you so that you can decide what is best for your situation. Depending on the type of treatment needed, you may require root canal therapy.
Before root canal treatment is started, patients are properly sedated and anesthetized for optimum comfort from the beginning to end. Dr. Monti Harpalani then creates an access point into the tooth. This access point goes into the inner canals of the tooth, allowing for easy removal of the dental pulp. The dental pulp includes the nerves and blood supply of the tooth that keep it alive. Once these tissues have been removed and the inner canals are disinfected, gutta-percha is used to fill the inner canals to seal the tooth. In most situations, our dentist will also place a dental crown over the natural tooth structure as an extra layer of protection and strength.
